Frequent Causes of Leg Cramps While Sleeping.

You may have awakened during sleep due to sudden attacks of pain due to leg cramps. This disorder can occur a few seconds to minutes.

Leg cramps at night are usually triggered by the calf muscles are tensed or seizures. Muscle cramps also occur on the soles of the feet or thighs.

The exact cause cramps at night still unknown, but the disorder will arise due to the activity or particular conditions, for example:

- Exercise, injury, or excessive muscle use.

- Pregnancy. Cramps can occur because of decreased amounts of minerals, such as calcium and magnesium in late gestation.

- Exposure to cold air.

- There is a medical disorder, such as circulatory problems, kidney disease, thyroid, and multiple sclerosis.

- Standing on hard surfaces for long periods, sit for too long, or the position of leg discomfort during sleep.

- Lack of potassium, calcium, and other minerals in the blood.

- Dehydration.

- Taking certain medicines, such as birth control pills, antipsychotic drugs, statins, or steroids.

There are several ways you can do to lessen the pain when the cramps occur:

- Stretch and massage, massage the muscles.

- Warm water bath to make the back muscles relax. Putting a warm compress on the calf muscles also helps.

- Drink plenty of fluids. Sports drinks also often help reduce cramping pain.

- Getting up from the bed and took a short walk or tiptoe.

- Do exercise gradually, bit by bit every week.

- When the cramps kept coming or worsen, consult a doctor because it could be a symptom of other disorders, such as legs syndrome will not be silent.
